A Science Teachers’ and Laboratory Technicians’ Science Equipment Workshop was held at Kings College Budo
ing’s College Budo inviteds teachers of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Lab Technicians to a Science Laboratory Equipment residential workshop scheduled which took place from the 24th to 27th August 2009 at the school.
Participants were trained in skills of building, use, repair and maintenance of science Lab equipment.
Participants were encouraged to bring along any equipment needing repair or explanation.
Workshop objectives included participants being able to:
- Know how to build at least 4 pieces of Physics, Chemistry or Biology equipment from local materials.
- Know local sources of useful materials, tools, and crafts.
- Gain in ability to repair existing science lab equipment.
- Know how to use of a digital voltmeter as a useful trouble-shooting tool for the lab.
- Know sources for appropriate simulation programs demonstrating scientific principles.
- Get started using those simulation programs.
- Join the community of science teachers and lab assistants in Uganda for continuing support with laboratory issues through communication.
Resident participants were required to pay a nominal fee of sh.75000/= covering meals and accommodation and workshop preparation costs. Resident participants reported on the afternoon of Sun 23rd August 2009 and departed on the morning of Frid 28th August 2009.
Resident participants had to report with personal effects like, blanket, bed sheets, mosquito net, soap, washing basin or bucket and a towel.
Non-resident participants payed a nominal fee of sh.56000/= for meals and workshop preparation costs and reported to the workshop venue before 8:00 am everyday of the workshop.
All participants were expected to cover their cost of transport to and fro the workshop. The workshop facilitators offered this training free as a way of giving back to the community.
Participants were presented with a certificate of completion at the end of the workshop.
